COVID-19 on rise: Check out containment zones in Pimpri-Chinchwad

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) on Thursday reintroduced containment zones in the city

Pimpri: In the light of increasing COVID-19 cases, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) on Thursday reintroduced containment zones in the city.

Pimrpi Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Rajesh Patil said that amid rising cases of COVID-19 in the city, containment zones are reintroduced here. He also stated that if any floor of a residential society has reported two or more cases, it will be declared as a containment zone.

The Municipal Commissioner has also asserted that the number of antigen-RT-PCR test will be increased as well as focus will be on contract tracing. “Currently, 2,000-3,000 tests are conducted in the city and plan is to increase it by at least 1,000,” he further said.

Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) administration had earlier issued a directive asking officials to certify mandatory use of facemasks and hand-sanitisers at wedding halls, cultural halls, entertainment, religious and spiritual places along with all COVID-19 norms to be practiced at all social, educational and political meeting places.

Earlier, amid the sudden surge in COVID cases in Pune district, some of the restrictions were suspended. As all schools, colleges and private coaching in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad will remain shut till February 28.

Meanwhile, Pimpri-Chinchwad reported 453 new cases on Thursday taking the total to 1,04,503. While, three people lost their lives amid COVID-19 taking the death tally to 1,836. On the positive front, 457 people recovered from the contagion on Thursday taking the progressive count of recoveries to 99,510.
