Cricket turns violent in Pune: Family members attacked by group after asking not to play

Nine men were booked by Pune police for the attempted murder of a woman for telling them to not play cricket in front of her house

Pune: Nine men were booked by police in the case were members of a family were beaten by group in Hadapsar area of Pune on Sunday. These nine people were booked under the charges of attempt to murder of a woman, her husband (both in late 40s) and their son who asked the group not to play cricket in front of their house.

The incident took place in Ramtekdi area of Hadapsar on Sunday morning and police are on the lookout for these nine men while one suspect identified as Parshuram Mirekar (72) was arrested. The police has also apprehended four juvenile in the case. A case has been filed against Kajal Mirekar (31), Suresh Mirekar (38) and Adhinath Mirekar (19), all residents of Ramtekdi. The 40-year-old woman Pushpa Thakur has filed a complaint at Hadapsar Police Station.

WHAT IS THE EXACT CASE

According to the police, the woman’s husband had previously gone to the residence of one of the accused men to grumble to his parents about playing cricket in the crowded area. The accused men had held a bitterness about it since then. The group approached the family of three in Ramtekdi and hit them with bats, stump, rods and bricks which led to serious injuries. After the incident, the family was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

A case under Sections 307 (attempted murder), rioting, 336, 427, 506 (criminal intimidation), 504 (insult with an intention of provoking a breach of peace) of Indian Penal Code along with Section 7(1) of the Criminal Law Amendment Act is registered at Wanowrie Police Station.

PSI (Police Sub-Inspector) Bholenath Ahivale of Wanowrie Police Station is probing the case further.
