PUNE: The Gram Panchayat (GP) of Wagholi has started door-to-door collection of garbage from housing societies in the area. Recently, residents had met Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar regarding the issue of garbage collection and management.

The Panchayat is also in the process of making a detailed project report (DPR) for garbage management which is monitored by the Zilla Parishad (ZP) .

“The Gram Panchayat has started door-to-door collection of garbage from registererd societies since a couple of days ago,” said Wagholi Housing Societies Association (WHSA), Director, Sanjeev Kumar Patil.

“Dumping of garbage has been stopped. However, the problem will be solved only if there is proper management of garbage plant,” he said.

Wagholi GP member Shivdas Ubale said that they will also distribute 54,000 dustbins to households for segregating of waste. “We have around 20 vehicles for six wards for garbage collection. At present, three vehicles have been deployed in every ward,” Ubale said.  A ZP official informed that the DPR will be submitted to the district collector in a week.
