Drug bust ahead of NYE bash: Pune police arrest two for possessing drugs worth Rs one crore

Two persons from Himachal Pradesh were arrested in Pune on charges of possessing drugs worth Rs 1 crore.

Pune: Two people from Himachal Pradesh were arrested in Pune on charges of possessing charas worth Rs 1 crore.

Acting on a tip-off, a trap was laid at Pune railway station where 34 kilograms of charas worth Rs 1 crore was seized, said Sadanand Wayse-Patil, Superintendent of Railway Police, Pune.

“We have found that the duo planned to send 22 kilograms of charas to Mumbai, and 5 kilograms each to Goa and Bengaluru. The rest 2 kilograms was to be supplied in Pune. The two have been charged under NDPS Act and remanded in police custody till January 2,” Wayse-Patil told ANI.

The duo were identified as Lalit Kumar Dayanand Sharma (49) and Kailas Singh Rupsingh Singh (40) from Himachal Pradesh. A case has been lodged in this regard at Lohmarg Police Station. As many as 34 kg of Charas worth Rs 1,03,64,000 was seized.

According to reports, the suspect used to hide the drugs in a silencer of the bike. He used to bring the drugs from Manali to Delhi. The police suspect that the consignment was brought to sold on the occasion of New Year’s eve.

The Narcotics Control Bureau was informed about the seized drugs. An FIR under sections 8 (C), 20 (B), (2) and 29 (related to possessing drugs) of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act was registered.
