PUNE: A 11-km elevated railway track from Pune railway station to Hadapsar will be constructed, a project that has been approved by the railway administration. An elevated railway station, which will be connected to Pune Metro, will be constructed on seven acres of railway land at Maldhakka Chowk. The project plan for the elevated railway track has been prepared and is awaiting State government’s final approval.

“The elevated corridor for the proposed Pune-Nashik corridor will be developed jointly by Maharashtra Railway Infrastructure Development Corporation (MRIDC), a joint venture of the government of Maharashtra and the Ministry of Railways,” a senior officer of Railway Board New Delhi said.  “MRIDC had proposed the Pune-Nashik rail line which will start from Pune railway station and will be an elevated corridor till Hadapsar. Now, the Railways has approved the proposal. From Hadapsar, the corridor will be diverted to Chakan through the normal line and then move towards Nashik,” the official added.

ELEVATED STATION
The elevated terminal, a seven-storey building, will be developed with a ground floor for parking space.

The first floor will house the station. The new terminal will be connected with Pune Metro.

The elevated metro rail line is passing through Maldhakka Chowk. As the proposed railway station, there will be a walk-way for passengers who can easily access the Pune Metro, Pune railway station and new (proposed) station.

MRIDC Managing Director Rajesh Jaiswal said, “The Pune-Nashik railway line will be developed soon and the new station will use state-of-the-art technology.”

Mumbai, Pune and Nasik are together referred to as the golden triangle of Maharashtra where the pace of socio-economic development is very fast.

At present, there is no direct railway link between Pune and Nashik.
