Pune: Divisional Commissioner Deepak Mhaisekar on Tuesday said that all government departments are working on a war footing to tackle the flood situation. He said the death toll in Pune division has reached 48. 

“As the floodwater is slowly receding, the focus is now on handling the post-flood situation and provide relief and rehabilitation. Officials of Public Works Department, Animal Husbandry, Health, Transport, Electricity, Water and administration departments are working closely to tackle the situation,” he said. 

“In Sangli, the water level is 4 inches above the danger mark and in Kolhapur, it is 23 inches above the danger mark. Continuous discharge from Almatti dam at 5.7 lakh cusecs brought down the water level,” he said.  

He said officials of the Revenue Department have started a survey of affected properties and livestock. “In Sangli, about 1,448 houses were partly damaged, in Kolhapur 8,236 were partly damaged and 268 homes were fully damaged. In many parts of Kolhapur, the administration is distributing relief material through helicopters. Officials of the Health Department and doctors are trying their best to treat people.” he said. 

Officials of the district administration said as the water level is reducing, more roads are becoming accessible. About 400 rescue camps are in operation with 6.4 lakh people in it. About 1,000 officials are working on the rescue operation. Currently 105 roads are closed in Pune division, of which, 94 are in Kolhapur and Sangli.
