Pune: Notorious gangster Gajanan Marne who was recently released from Taloja Jail was yet again arrested by Pune Rural Police from Satara district on Saturday.
According to Pune Rural Police SP, Dr Abhinav Deshmukh, the 44-year-old was detained under the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) Act.
Gajanan Marne and members from his gang were released from jail in February after being acquitted by the special MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act) court in two cases of murder. After releasing from the jail, he and his members had taken out a procession from Taloja in Navi Mumbai to Pune. According to police, there were 250- 300 vehicles, including multiple SUVs, in the procession.
Due to this, the gang was booked again in multiple offences in regions of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.
Gajanan Marne was sent to the Yerawada Central Jail where Nilesh Ghaywal, his rival was sent to recently by the Pune rural police. Marne and Ghaywal's rivalry was part of a gang war that was active in Pune ten years back. Ghaywal has over 12 cases registered against him which include cases of murder, attempt to murder and extortion and other.
According to the police officals, Marne was on the run fearing his arrest. On February 25, Marne appeared before the Wadgaon Maval to request bail in a case registered at the Talegaon Dabhade Police Station. After the court granted him bail, Marne left court even as police wanted to nab him in other cases.
