Holiday for schools and colleges today

ST CORRESPONDENT

Pune: The Pune district collector has declared a holiday for all schools and colleges in Pune city and Haveli, Bhor, Purandar and Baramati talukas on Friday, September 27, as heavy rainfall has been predicted in the city.

The decision was taken in order to prevent any untoward incident because of the rainfall, considering the destruction caused by the heavy rains on September 25.

While the district administration declared a holiday on Thursday due to heavy rainfall in the city on Wednesday night, several schools and colleges were functional as usual, as the notification from the district collector came in very late.

Heavy rainfall on Wednesday night left several parts of the city inundated with water. To avoid any undesirable incident, District Collector Naval Kishore Ram issued a notification declaring a holiday for schools and colleges in Pune city and Haveli, Baramati, Bhor and Purandar talukas on Thursday morning. However, as most of the students had already reached their schools by the time the notification reached them, most schools functioned as usual. However, schools in severely affected areas of the city remained shut.

Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) announced a holiday for affiliated colleges in Pune, and above mentioned talukas, as well as the University office after the notification was received.
