Pune: The road diversion that was implemented on Karve Road at Nal Stop for traffic going towards Kothrud was removed on Tuesday after just one day of being in effect.
As one part of Karve Road was shut as an experiment by the city traffic police to see the traffic’s response, the resultant chaos forced them to abandon this plan. The road was to be shut for the commencement of Metro Rail Project work.
Heavy traffic congestion for the entire day on Monday, coupled with water logging due to monsoon, was the reason this diversion was removed.
A traffic policeman at Nal Stop said, “Due to a lot of traffic, we decided to remove the diversion and let the traffic flow the way
it was.”
Dr Chaya Mahajan, who uses this route daily, said, “I think it was not a practical decision taken by the authority as it disturbed the daily routine of people who are passing by that road.”
Nalini Amone, a resident of Prabhat Road, who was in the area to visit Saraswat Bank, Karve Road, on Tuesday, said, “I could not go to the Bank on Monday because of the diversion and chaos. Thankfully, it did not last beyond a day, so I was able to come today.”
Dhanashree Joshi, owner of Ambassador Suppliers Stationery shop, said, “My business was affected as people were not allowed to use Karve Road.”
