MILIT organises workshop on AI

Pune: Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies, including machine learning and deep learning have seized the imagination across the globe. AI application in defence sector is the need of the hour. Thus keeping in tune with the emergent need to train Defence Officers in AI and related issues the Military Institute of Technology (MILIT), Girinagar, Pune conducted a workshop on AI for officers of three services in Delhi. 

The workshop, under the aegis of Directorate of Indian Defence University was conducted from September 11-13 at Jodhpur Officers’ Hostel and DRDO Conference Hall. Eminent speakers from the industry, academia and the task force constituted by Ministry of Defence (MoD) on AI participated in the capsule.

Addressing the gathering, Lt Gen PJS Pannu, Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff, asked the participants to immerse themselves in the three day proceedings with an aim to imbibe the technology and the policies on the subject matter. He deliberated on the need for enhancing the application of AI in Defence Forces at the earliest. 

Eminent speakers included Prof Uday Ganguly, IIT Bombay, Prashant Gupta, Microsoft, Srinivas Rao, TCS and Shridhar Seshadri, CEO, Spotflock. The workshop discussed emerging scenarios for exploitation by armed forces and agreed to work towards a coordinated road map to prepare the armed forces to future challenges.
