PUNE: Navsahyadri Group of Institutes (NESGI), Naigaon, recently organised Faculty Development Programme entitled ‘Importance of New Pedagogy at Graduate Level Programs’.

KS Charak, Director said that faculty always need to endeavour for upgrading and enhancing the skill sets of their domains. “The Corporate Social Responsibility which the institute is bound with impels us to also engage the faculty from the bachelors’ colleges for larger societal upliftment as far as imparting the education is concerned. Thus enabling them to stay abreast with latest learning and teaching methodologies. This will help them churn out better and industry-desired workforce,” said Charak.

PN Suke, President of Navsahyadri Education Society reiterated the same.

The objectives of the programme included bringing together faculty members from undergraduate colleges for network building and to have a discussion on continuous upgradation of faculty, to get inputs from experts on faculty development through API and performance appraisal at institute level, to know the importance of value added or certification courses that will help students in their placement activity.

Misal highlighted the students’ perceptions about the courses at graduate level and examination preparations. “PhD degree and research work done by the faculty members should not be mere eligibility norms for promotions. There should be genuine research work for upliftment of the society. If we expect global competition  from our students, we as a faculty should enhance and upgrade our knowledge and technical skills. There should be interesting teaching-learning methods to be adopted and used by the faculty in the class,” said Misal.
