Pune: With the recovery of two more bodies on Sunday, the total casualties due to Wednesday’s rain-related incidents reached 26, while a few more are still missing across Pune district.
Salim Shaikh (45), who had gone missing near Ganga Satellite bridge over Bhairoba Nala, was found dead in Shrigonda.
Shaikh, a resident of Eisha Loreal Society, worked as a senior manager with Nvidia, was missing since Wednesday night. He was going to Netaji Nagar after his brother Aslam called him to inform him that the latter was stuck due to rainfall. While crossing the bridge near Ganga Satellite and Raheja Gardens, Shaikh’s Honda Civic car was swept away. His body was identified by his younger brother Zahir Shaikh on Sunday.
Nikhil Dinesh Chavan (25), who had gone missing with his two friends, was found dead in the Jambhulwadi lake near Katraj-Dehu Road bypass.
The authorities are searching for Victor Sangale (26), who is a cycling enthusiast and had returned from an expedition to North-East on Wednesday. He was on his way to a cousin’s house when his car was swept away from a bridge on Bhairoba Nala near Ganga Satellite society. He was driving a white Tata Tiago with licence plate MH12 RK8732. However, his car has been found.
Engineering student Nikita Thutte (22) of Dhayari who had gone missing near Vadgaon bridge, is yet to be found.
Meanwhile, District Collector Naval Kishore Ram on Sunday visited the flood-affected people in Rajendra Nagar and issued directions to provide them shelter and food.
