PUNE: After incessant rains lashed several parts of the city which led to waterlogging at different places, employees working in the IT industry flooded social media with their complaints as many employees were stuck in traffic for more than two hours on Tuesday evening.
The traffic chaos also forced officials of Hinjawadi police and traffic police department to regulate the traffic till Tuesday midnight.
Many people, who were stuck in the traffic jam, blamed the poor infrastructure in Hinjawadi area as the cause of the traffic jams.
Speaking on the issue, Forum of IT Employees (FITE) President Pavanjit Mane said that the issue of traffic chaos was discussed on several IT employees’ groups.
“Many of our friends, who were stuck in traffic, were on social media sites, raising their concerns,” Mane said.
Speaking about the poor infrastructure, Mane said that underpasses at Punawale, Bhujbal Chowk, Bhumkar Chowk and others are quite narrow and low lying which leads to traffic blockage.
“The traffic jams in Hinjawadi has been the burning issue since decades which the administration has failed to address. If there is waterlogging in any part of the area, the administration can use water pumps to drain water and these waterlogged areas can be free for people to use,” added Mane.
Police officials said that waterlogging was also reported on the service road near the Pune-Bengaluru Highway which also added to traffic chaos. “JCB machines were used for digging in waterlogged areas which helped in controlling the situation,” said a police official.
IT employees also raised the issue of poor alternative roads to Hinjawadi leading to traffic chaos.
Sudhir Hiremath, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Pimpri-Chinchwad [olice, said that officials of the traffic and police department were on the ground to control the situation despite heavy rains and waterlogging.
