Pune: With a sudden spurt in COVID cases, Pune (city) is showing signs of worry as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has now asked private hospitals to increase more beds for serious patients. There are currently 355 such patients in Pune.

Although the number of serious and critical patients is currently under control, the patients who need oxygenated beds are shown ‘waiting’ notice by some private hospitals.

Senior citizens and those with comorbidities may witness a sudden drop in oxygen level. Therefore, such patients require oxygenated beds. At present, about 150 patients are receiving treatment at Sassoon General Hospital, while 125 are admitted at Naidu Hospital. Some of the family members are seen struggling to admit their patients at private hospitals at Dinanath Hospital, Poona Hospital, Hinjewadi’s Ruby Hospital and Kotbagi Hospital in Aundh.

There is a demand to increase the number of beds in private hospitals for COVID-19 patients. The hospitals are now asked to add isolation, oxygenated, ICU beds with the ventilator.

CASES ON THE RISE

From February 1 to 4, nearly 700 patients were receiving treatment against the infection. However, the number of cases started showing a sudden surge resulting from a rise in the number of admissions in the hospital.

Saturday saw 10,723 receiving treatment in various hospitals around Pune. On Sunday, the number stood at 11,590. Also, 9,122 tests were conducted in the city where Pune city (Pune Municipal Corporation) recorded 1,740 new cases.

Dr Sanjeev Wavre, Deputy Medical Officer of PMC, said, “Adequate number of beds are provided as the number of patients is on the rise. Ventilators and oxygen beds are provided as required. Preparations are underway at all levels.”
