Pune: Worried over vague updates about husband Nitin's health conditions, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Corporator Ashwini Kadam reached out directly to Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and asked him to inquire about Nitin's health from his treating doctors. Pawar pacified her and asked her to stay calm and strong while Nitin recovers.

Ashwini Kadam has tested negative for COVID-19, but her husband Nitin, son Viren and daughter Gauravi have all tested positive. Viren is asymptomatic and has been asked to stay in isolation at home. Nitin and Gauravi are admitted to a private hospital and undergoing treatment for more than four days. Nitin's health condition is stable but fever and cough symptoms are still persisting.

Worried over this, Ashwini asked the treating doctors about the reasons behind this but did not get satisfactory answers. She then asked the Pune Municipal Corporation health officers to take information and give personal attention to Nitin's treatment. Even then, Nitin's condition has not improved yet. This prompted Ashwini to directly call up Deputy CM Ajit Pawar and requested him to understand what treatment is being given to Nitin.

Ajit Pawar listened patiently to her and assured her that Nitin will get good treatment and recover quickly. Pawar said, "Ashwini, yours and Nitin's social work is good so don't worry. Nitin and your children will recover from COVID." Member of Parliament Supriya Sule too spoke with Ashwini Kadam and gave her emotional support.

Ashwini and Nitin Kadam are politically and socially active in the Parvati-Sahakarnagar area. Ashwini Kadam has been the standing committee chairman of PMC when the NCP and Congress was in power in the civic body. Since the COVID-19 outbreak, they were seen helping and reaching out to citizens seeking help. It is suspected that they were infected with the coronavirus while they were engaged in relief work of distributing masks, food kits and other items.
