Pune: Colleges to reopen from January 11 with COVID-19 restrictions

Colleges affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) in Pune, Nashik, Ahmednagar will reopen from January 11

Pune: Colleges affiliated to the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) will reopen from January 11. Theory, practicals, industrial projects of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes of those colleges in Pune region (including Nashik, Ahmednagar) will resume from January 11.

After the conclusion of the odd semesters, the theory and practical work of the even semesters of all programmes will be conducted in offline mode. Practicals and other projects for the courses of commerce, arts, fine arts, library science, journalism, social science and similar programmes can start their sessions in offline mode from January 11. The practicals for first-year undergraduate courses and postgraduate courses will also start from the same date.

The courses where the student count is less than 50, the classes will also be started. The order states that the UGC should abide by the rules of the state government and seek the permission of the local administration.

Pune University has formed a committee under the Chairmanship of Principal VB Gaikwad and the meeting for the decision of reopening of colleges was held on Monday. The report of the committee on their recommendations of reopening of colleges was submitted by the Vice-Chancellor Dr Nitin Karmalkar. The first year of BA, BSc, BCom and other vocational and non-vocational courses in for the second, third year has already started online in August.

ADMISSION PROCESS

The university has allowed colleges to reopen from January 11 but the admission process for some courses including engineering, pharmacy, hotel management is carried out via CET cell. The university has clarified that after the completion of the admission process for the above courses, the theory and practicals can be resumes as per the dates declared by the eligible institution.

Meanwhile, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) earlier had decided to reopen the schools and colleges in the city from, January 4. Physical classes in schools are only conducted for students of classes 9 to 12 in the with all COVID-19 protocols in the place.
