Pimpri: Four people, including the owner of an online betting app ‘Sunbets’ were arrested by Pimpri Chinchwad police in a connection with the betting racket that was busted during the ODI between India and England at MCA’s Gahujne Stadium on March 26.
The arrested have been identified as Chetan Jagdish Davar (27), Bipinkumar Manilal Tanna (52), Ajay Vasant Shah (44) and Rahul Ajay Sakhla (27).
Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissioner Krishna Prakash on Thursday stated they have received information of betting apps used by the accused. Bipinkumar Tanna of the ‘Sunbets’ app, was also arrested in the case. With this, the total number of people arrested in betting case now goes to 37.
Krishna Prakash on Thursday said, “Four teams have been formed to investigate the matter. There may be connection from the different states of the country in the racket. There is also a chance that the accused are linked to international bookies.” According to a press release issued by Pimpri Chinchwad Police, four mobile phones consisting of some vital info about the bookies and a computer with source code details of the ‘Sunbets’ application is confiscated.
Police are on the run for the accused who were running the illegal online betting applications.
The racket was busted in Pune, when acting on a tip-off, Police Chief of Pimpri Chinchwad set up three teams and raided three locations, including a under construction building near Gahunje Stadium, the Lemon Tree hotel in Viman Nagar and Ghorwadeshwar hill near Dehu Road.
