Pune: The district has imposed a semi-lockdown to restrict the further spread of the novel coronavirus from Saturday. The administration has also enforced curfew between 6 pm to 6 am. However, the Puneties are under immense tension, what if they want to travel in the curfew.

To assist citizens, Pune Police has clarified some set of rules for those who want to travel during curfew. Pune Police had stated that those who want to travel during the curfew has to show valid ID cards, letter from the company or valid reason for travelling. The police have also clarified that those travelling without any reason will face stringent action.

Senior officials including Commissioner of Police Amitabh Gupta, Joint Commissioner of Police Dr Ravindra Shisve, Additional Commissioner of Police Ashok Morale (Crime) and Additional Commissioner of Police Dr Sanjay Shinde themselves took the review to monitor the situation after 6pm in the city on Saturday. Citizens were being questioned by the police by setting up barricades all over the city.

"People are requested to stay home as it will help to break the chain of the virus. One must travel only if they have a valid and important reason. We will co-operate with people but those flouting norms will face strict action," Police Commissioner Gupta said.

WHAT NEW RULES STATE

- One must carry identity cards, letters of companies and other required documents.

- Workers travelling to and from the city at night should keep their company, establishment identity card with them.

- One must keep valid documents with you when leaving for medical emergency, travel or any other purpose.

Dr Ravindra Shisve, Joint Commissioner of Police, has instructed the Additional Commissioner of Police, Deputy Commissioner of Police to provide transport to the stranded passengers during night. The police officers have also been informed on the same.

"In due course, the police will assist stranded passengers in their own vehicles," Shisve informed.

Those people working other than that of essential service sector, are likely to be most affected by the curfew. People working in essential service sector should get identity cards from their respective organisations. Similarly, those who are working in another sectors should carry an official letter provided by the company. The letter is supposed to be shown to the police when asked.

Shisve further explained, "This curfew is imposed to prevent the further infection. Citizens are aware of the situation. We are taking care that nobody will face problem during curfew."

Meanwhile, Pune district recorded a total of 10,827 new cases in span of 24 hours. Of the new cases found on Saturday, 5,720 were reported from Pune city (Pune Municipal Corporation) followed by 2,832 from Pimpri Chinchwad (Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation) while a total 2,275 were recorded from Cantonment and rural areas.
