Pune Fashion Street fire: Senior fire officer dies in road accident

Pune's Fashion Street was engulfed in flames on Friday damaging 600 shops

Pune: Prakash Hasbe, Superintendent of Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) Fire Brigade on Friday night bravely helped his team members in a fight against fire that broke out in Pune's Fashion Street. The fire which destroyed over 600 stalls at Pune's Fashion Street, Kasbe while returning to his home met with an accident where he lost his life.

About 600 stalls were charred in the massive fire on Fashion Street in Pune at around 11 on Friday night. Teams of the Central Fire Brigade and the PCB Fire Brigade were deployed and about 18 fire tenders and multiple water tankers were rushed to the spot. After a rigorous efforts of the firefighters, the fire was doused at 1.30 am (Saturday). Hasbe was among the senior fire officers present at the spot.

PCB CEO Amit Kumar confirmed that Hasbe died in a road accident while returning from duty. Hasbe reviewed the situation and then left at 4.30 am. Hasbe told his teammates that he will return in a couple of hours. While returning home, he met with an accident at Pune-Ahmednagar Road.

Meanwhile, Pune's Fashion Street was engulfed in flames on Friday however, the reason of the fire is still unknown. The Fashion Street situated between MG Road and East Street in Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) is one of the well known shopping hub that houses small shops selling clothes, shoes, sunglasses and other accessories.

Even though there were no reported casualities, amid the big fire, hawkers and shop owners have suffered heavy losses. As per the fire officials, around 16 fire engines and two water tankers doused the fire at the spot.
