Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to open 31 gardens out of total 204 in the city. These gardens will be open for public from 6 am to 8 am and 5 pm to 7 pm starting from Thursday (June 4). The PMC officials have however appealed to senior citizens above 65 years of age to refrain from coming to these public places.
There are total of 204 gardens in the city. Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Gaikwad recently announced phased reopening of public places which included gardens from June 3. However, the gardens in containment zones will be closed. Hence the garden department of PMC studied the civic-body’s order carefully and planned of reopening 31 gardens in the non-containment zone of the city. Small gardens have also been excluded, said Ashok Ghorpade, Garden Superintendent, PMC.
Ghorpade said, “Only those gardens where citizens can jog and follow social distancing norms have been opened in the first phase. If visitors are found violating social distancing norms, then those gardens will be closed down immediately.”
“Citizens should avoid group exercises. Only walking and running exercises are permitted. Citizens should avoid usage of benches and gym equipment located in the garden premises.”
