Pune: MNGL piped gas supply disrupted in Manik Baug, Anand Nagar areas on Sinhagad Road

Sakal Times News Desk

Pune: Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL) piped gas supply to residents of Sinhagad Road area got disrupted on Saturday (August 22) afternoon. Due to this, residents of Manik Baug and Anand Nagar areas on Sinhagad road suffered on the very first day of the Ganeshotsav.

MNGL has laid down its network in several societies and areas on Sinhagad road. Since the pressure of supplied gas was low, several societies went without cooking gas on Ganesh Chaturthi itself. As a result, citizens were furious over MNGL’s service.

Milind Darje, a resident of Makarand Park on Sinhagad Road said, “The MNGL gas supply was completely cut off at around 2 pm. We had to rush to make an alternative arrangement as we were unable to cook food at our home. As it was the first day of the 10 day Ganesh festival, citizens were preparing for special food items to be offered for the deity. Gas supply disruption inconvenienced citizens while preparing food.”

MNGL received frantic calls from Sinhagad road residents since Saturday afternoon. The repair work was started late afternoon and the supply was restored at around 5 pm.

MNGL officials said that the gas supply was disrupted due to low pressure in the supply lines. After receiving customer complaints, our team immediately rushed to the spot and rectified the supply problems, officials claimed.

MNGL is the fastest growing city gas distribution company according to the Federation of Indian Petroleum Industry.  In terms of households, the Pune-based company has a coverage of less than 20 per cent.  MNGL officials had earlier claimed that they are aiming at providing 90,000 new piped gas connections in one year. These officials had also said that 3,096 connection requests were pending with the company due to challenges in terms of right of way, permissions and restoration charges.
