Pune Serum Institute fire incident: COVID-19 vaccine unit completely safe

Latest reports said that the unit where COVISHIELD vaccine is manufactured is completely safe.

Pune: A major fire broke out Terminal Gate 1 of the Serum Institute of India (SII) in Pune on Thursday. The Serum Institute of India is the manufacturer of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID vaccine – Covishield.

COVISHIELD vaccine against COVID is being manufactured by the pharma giant. Sources said the production of COVISHIELD was not being carried out at the SII building where fire broke out at 1.30 pm. 10 fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the fire. However, latest reports said that the unit where COVISHIELD vaccine is manufactured is completely safe. The vaccine is manufactured at SEZ III building where the fire incident was not reported.
