Pune: Shivajinagar jeweller robbed off Rs 2.75 lakh by three unidentified suspects on Laxmi Road

Pune: A young jeweller craving for tea at midnight and in search of a tea-stall on Laxmi Road was robbed off Rs 2.75 lakh including gold ornaments by three unidentified suspects on Friday night. The incident took place near the Bank of Baroda branch on Lakshmi road area. Police have booked three unknown persons in this regard.

Jitendra Rathod (30), a resident of Tanajiwadi in Shivajinagar has filed a complaint in this regard. He has a goldsmith shop in Shivajinagar area. Jitendra craved tea at midnight on Friday. At that time, he thought that a tea stall could be operating near the Bank of Baroda on Lakshmi Road. So Jitendra took his bike and headed towards Laxmi Road.

While Jitendra came near Bank of Baroda branch, three suspects stopped him. One of the suspects asked Jitendra “what's the matter in this area”. Before Jitendra could realize the danger, the suspects threatened him and forcibly took away the gold bracelet, the gold chain around his neck and a cash of Rs 2500 from Jitendra. The thieves then fled on a two wheeler.

Meanwhile, after the incident, he contacted Vishrambaug police and lodged a complaint against the unknown suspects. The case is being investigated by Assistant Inspector of Police Yuvraj Patil from Vishrambaug police station.

Two days ago at the Swargate PMP bus stand area, a young man was killed after he resisted thieves who tried to steal his mobile and money. During Ganeshotsav, a retired policeman was attacked with a sharp weapon and his mobile handset was snatched from him.

The incident where an old woman returning home after buying milk was targeted by chain snatchers at the stairs of her residential building is fresh. Despite the frequent incidents of burglary in the city, there is a lack of concrete action by the police.
