The incident took place in Pimpri-Chinchwad and the police have arrested two people in this regard. From the duo, police have recovered 34 counterfeit notes, printers and paper rims worth Rs 34,000. They have seized all the items and are investigating the case.

According to police, "Both the persons arrested are real brother and sister who live together in Ghotawade phata. They used to print fake Rs 100 notes in one room of their house. They had invented this shortcut to make money to meet their daily needs, as due to the COVID-19 situation they had lost their jobs and had no income."

Police further said, "Initially, they printed hundreds of notes, but they were not printed properly, so they tried again after watching a video of the counterfeit notes on YouTube. Based on which they printed 34 notes of Rs 100 Indian currency notes. They came to the market to get it exchanged but in few posh areas, they were denied claiming it was fake. They even went to malls. So they chose the vegetable market in Gawhane Vasti at Bhosari from Uttam Nagar in Pune to avoid any arrest"

He added, "Similarly, both came to Bhosari to buy vegetables on Sunday. After buying the vegetables, he gave a fake note of one hundred rupees to the vegetable seller. However, the vegetable seller became suspicious as the note seemed different than usual. When the vegetable seller asked about this, Sunita tried to run away. However, some women grabbed her and stopped her from running away. Sunita pretended to be unconscious. So Sunita took advantage of the fact that the women and civilians fled in panic. Meanwhile, the suspect Datta was handed over to the police by the citizens. Sunita was also arrested from another spot while a team from the Crime branch unit conducted a further investigation under the guidance of senior police inspector Uttam Tangde."
