Pune: She is a teacher by profession but on Monday she turned into a superwoman… Descending from the terrace of a building into a flat located on the third floor, this superwoman - Sheetal Mahendra Navale-Patil - rescued a 1.5-year-old girl locked inside. The incident took place in Kamal Park society on Chilai road in Manjari near Pune city.

Sheetal is a student of Karve Shikshan Sanstha and she is working as a teacher in the same institute. She is originally from Shirur and has completed her entire college education by staying in the hostel of Karve institute. She was also a part of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) during her college days and hence had undergone disaster management and rescue training. She utilised this knowledge to rescue the 1.5-year-old baby girl in Manjari on Monday.

A 1.5 years old baby girl was trapped inside a flat on the third floor of Kamal Park society. The four-storeyed building is owned by one Rohidas Bhandwalkar. The third floor flat has been rented to one Sushant Yadav who stays with his wife and 1.5-year-old girl Aaradhya. While Sushant Yadav had gone to the office for work, his wife was doing household chores. She had gone to the terrace at around 11.30 am to dry clothes and Aaradhya was left alone in the flat.

When Aaradhya's mother came back, she realised that the main door had been locked from inside. Aaradhya was also crying inside as she felt trapped in the flat. Aaradhya's mother was seeking help from neighbours when Sheetal, who stays at Shantai Society in front of Kamal Park - came on to the balcony for some work. Aaradhya's mother requested Sheetal to send her husband but since he was not at home, Sheetal herself went to Kamal Park. Sheetal comforted Aaradhya's mother and assured her that she would rescue her baby.

Sheetal decided to let her 10-year-old boy enter the flat from the terrace using a rope. But since the path was difficult, she cancelled the plan. Then she took a rope from a transport company employee and herself went to the terrace. She tied the rope to her waist and descended to the window lentil first and then in the gallery of the flat. Fortunately, the inside door of the gallery was open and Sheetal could manage to go inside the flat. Sheetal took Aaradhya and opened the main door of the flat.

Sheetal said, "My parents taught me to help others and the training I got from Karve Institute helped me to take these courageous decisions. I am happy that I could rescue the baby girl with the help of very little resources available at hand."
