Pune: This hospital becomes first in city to perform 200 liver transplants

The 200th liver transplant was conducted at Sahyadri Super Speciality Hospital Deccan on a 32-year-old male from Chakan

Pune: The 200th liver transplant was conducted at Sahyadri Super Speciality Hospital Deccan on a 32-year-old male from Chakan who was suffering from end stage liver cirrhosis.

A 27 year old labourer from Beed who had suffered a severe head injury following a road accident was declared brain dead on 17th January 2021. His family agreed to donate two kidneys and liver.

The kidney transplant was also conducted at Sahyadri Super Speciality Hospital Deccan on a 46 year old male from Pune suffering from chronic kidney disease. The other kidney was allocated to another hospital.

The transplant team consisted of Hepatobiliary and Liver Transplant Surgeons Dr Bipin Vibhute, Dr Dinesh Zirpe, Dr Aniruddha Bhosale, Hepatologist Dr Sheetal Mahajani, Paediatric Hepatologist Dr Snehawardhan Pandey, Clinical Associate Dr Abhijeet Mane; Transplant Anaesthetist, Dr. Manish Phatak and Dr Kiran Thate, Nephrologist Dr. Atul Sajgure, Urologist Dr.Ketan Pai, General Surgeon Dr. Sanjay Kolte, Vascular Surgeon Dr Adwait Kothurkar,Anaesthetist Dr Vikas Karne and Dr Vandana Ghude, Coordinators Arun Ashokan , Aman Bele, Chetan Chaudhary, Rahul Tambe and Medical Social Worker Sharmila Padhye.

Sharmila Padhye counselled the 21 year old wife of the labourer Despite all odds , the brave wife gave consent for organ transplantation on 17th January 2021, in Sahyadri Hospital.

Dr Ketan Apte Unit Head Sahyadri Hospitals said, "I want to congratulate the team of doctors who not only did the transplants successfully but focused on fast track recovery and discharge of the patient. Availability of well-trained medical team under the leadership of Dr. Vibhute, excellent clinical outcomes and affordable price points & availability of service helped us. Almost 150 of these liver transplants have received some amount of financial support with efforts from Sahyadri Hospitals along with various NGOs.
