Pune: Pune was positioned as second top city on the government's Ease of Living (EOL) Index 2020. As per the index released by Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Thursday, Bengaluru ranked first on the list of Indian cities with a population of over 10 lakhs. Pune’s neighbouring region Pimpri Chinchwad ranked 16th on the table.
The EOL Index monitors the well-being of citizens in 111 cities, including those fall under the Smart Cities Mission of the government. The EOL index was launched two years back and trusts on parameters encircling different evaluation criteria, such as governance, economy, education, water supply affordable housing, identity and culture, public open spaces, transportation and mobility, waste management, power, health, land use planning, safety and security and environment.
Apart from the Ease of Living Index, the central government also released the final rankings of the Municipal Performance Index (MPI). The New Delhi Municipal Council bagged the top spot in the Municipal Performance Index list. Here Pune (Pune Municipal Corporation) with score of 58.79 sits on fifth position while Pimpri Chinchwad (Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation) with score of 59.00 bagged fourth spot.
