Pune: With one lakh active cases in 60 days, recovery rate goes down in the district

In 60 days, the number of active cases in the Pune district has crossed the grim mark of one lakh

Pune: Pune district on Sunday recorded 12,377 new cases, the highest till date. With this, the progressive count of COVID-19 in the district stood at 6,48,393. Also, 87 people lost their lives amid the contagion on Sunday of which 48 were from Pune city (Pune Municipal Corporation) followed by 19 in Pimpri Chinchwad (Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation).

Of the 12,377 cases in the district, the city saw 6,679 fresh cases followed by 2,409 in Pimpri Chinchwad. The rural area of Pune also sharp rise where 2,465 cases were found in 24 hours.

ONE LAKH CASES IN 60 DAYS

In 60 days, the number of active cases in the Pune district has crossed the grim mark of one lakh. The district had the lowest number of active COVID-19 patients on March 11. In one month, the number has shot to 1,02,000.

There were 82,172 active patients in the Pune district in September last year. Since then, the number of patients had been steadily declining. It was the lowest recorded till February 11, according to the state's public health department. From March, the number of active patients then started to rise again. In just one month, the number increased to 21,276. However, in the next 30 days, the number of active patients crossed the one lakh mark.

RECOVERY RATE GONE DOWN

The recovery rate in Pune during February was around 96.6 per cent. This means behind every 100 patients, 96 were recovered. For the past two months, amid the rise in the spread of the infection, the recovery rate has gone down. According to the health officials, the recovery rate in the district now stands at 82.7 per cent.

LOW DEATH RATE

In a sigh of relief, the death rate in the Pune district stood at 1.3 per cent, according to health officials. The death rate in April 2020 was gone up to 11.4 per cent. Thus, the district is witnessing a steep rise in the spread of COVID-19 cases, the district has reported the lowest death rate.

SHORTAGE OF REMDESIVIR

Pune, one of the worst-hit cities in India is also battling the shortage of Remdesivir drug. The administration on Sunday ordered that hospitals will have to make the drug available for Covid-19 patients. The Remdesivir, the anti-viral drug is used to treat serious COVID-19 patients. The district on Sunday also started a dedicated helpline to ensure the smooth distribution of Remdesivir.

Murlidhar Mohol, Mayor of Pune Municipal Corporation on his Twitter handle wrote, "Those who need the drug can call on 020-26123371 or call 1077.”

Due to the shortage of Remdesivir vials in Pune city, the administration has issued a notification stating that the drug will not be sold over-the-counter or in medical shops.
