Pune: Woman demands Rs 50 lakh ransom for settling old sexual assault case

The two suspects have been identified as Meera Avdhoot Chavan and Sachin Jadhav.

Pune: Bharati Vidyapeeth police have booked a woman and her male accomplice on charges of demanding a ransom of Rs 50 lakh for settling an old sexual assault case registered against a man in Aurangabad.

The two suspects have been identified as Meera Avdhoot Chavan and Sachin Jadhav. Vaijayanti Bhutale (47), a resident of Dalvi Nagar in Narhe Ambegaon has filed a complaint against the duo. Based on her complaint, a FIR has been registered against the suspects at Bharati Vidyapeeth police station.

According to police, complainant Bhutale stays in the Narhe area along with her family. A case was registered against Bhutale's husband while he was working in Aurangabad. The suspect Meera Chavan is the complainant in the case filed against Bhutale's husband.

According to the complaint filed by Bhutale, Meera Chavan had sent one Sachin Jadhav to her home with a demand of Rs 50 lakh ransom in order to 'settle' the old sexual assault case. Meera Chavan has also allegedly threatened Bhutale that if the amount is not paid then their children would also be falsely framed in the sexual assault case.

Bharati Vidyapeeth police have analysed the CCTV camera footage near Bhutale's residence. A man with a masked face is seen visiting Bhutale's house in the footage. Bharati Vidyapeeth police are investigating the case further.
