Incorrect match: Pune woman duped of Rs 12 lakh by ‘cosmetic surgeon from USA’ via dating app

Pune: With online fraud on the rise, another shocking incident has come into the light. A woman from Pimpri-Chinchwad has duped of Rs 12 lakh by fraudsters impersonating as a cosmetic surgeon from the USA.

The woman came into contact with the fake ‘cosmetic surgeon’ via dating application.

The woman now has lodged a case at Wakad Police Station. According to the police, the woman had started texting with the profile of ‘Cosmetic Surgeon working in USA’ via dating app from last year. The fraudster assured to marry her and said he would soon be coming to India permanently.

After some days, the fraudster allegedly started demanding the woman for money on different pretexts. Initially, he gave a reason that his mother had met with a head injury and thus need money for her treatment, police further said. Later, he also asked over Rs 1 lakh to buy medicinal oils from seeds accessible in Bengaluru. Later, he also asked for more than Rs 6 lakh to begin a new business of these same medicinal oils in which the woman’s father and his father would be partners for the same.

The fraudster later told the woman that along with one manager of the company he is visiting India to form the new company. However, the fraudster told the woman that he has been apprehended at the airport for ‘not having a United Nations Green Card’. To release from this matter, he again asked Rs 2.7 lakh from her.

After realising that this is the case of fraud, the woman rushed to the police. According to the police a case has been registered against the alleged fraudsters. The suspect is being identified as Arjun Gopal and is booked for allegedly cheating of Rs 12.3 lakh.
