PUNE: Despite its late entry, the monsoon has brought good news, as the total water level of all four dams supplying water to the city has increased to 6.25 Thousand Million Cubic Feet (TMC) or 21.44 per cent on Sunday evening. 

However, it is 0.14 TMC less than the level last year, which was 6.39 TMC or 21.93 per cent.

The storage of the four dams - Khadakwasala, Panshet, Varasgaon and Temghar on Saturday was 4.91 TMC (16.86 per cent). In last 24 hours ended on Sunday evening, Temghar dam received 106 mm rainfall, while Varasgaon and Panshet received 58 mm and 56 mm rainfall respectively. Khadakwasala received 15 mm rainfall in last 24 hours ended on Sunday evening.

As per the Irrigation Department, the catchment area of the four dams received 124 mm rainfall on Sunday.

Temghar dam catchment area recorded maximum 64 mm of rainfall, followed by Varasgaon (31 mm) and Panshet (30 mm). However, the catchment area of Khadakwasala received  only 9 mm rainfall, which is 3 mm more than rainfall recorded on Saturday (6 mm).

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) noted 48.7 mm rainfall was reported for last 24 hours at 8.30 am on Sunday morning. The IMD has forecasted light showers in the city.  The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) draws about 1.4 TMC water every month and about 16 TMC in a year. The current water level of 6.25 TMC will be able to provide water for next four months. But, Irrigation officials expect the level of water in dams to increase further.
