Rains in February: Pune may witness light showers; parts of Maharashtra to receive rain and hail

The Meteorological Department has also revealed scattered rains and hailstorm expected on Tuesday and Wednesday in Vidarbha, southern and central parts of Maharashtra and Marathwada

Pune: The India Meteorological Department has predicted that Pune district may witness cloudy conditions with a possibility of light rainfall on February 18. While, the IMD has also predicted moderate rainfall around various parts of Maharashtra including Vidarbha and Marathwada between Tuesday and Thursday.

The Meteorological Department has also revealed scattered rains and hailstorm expected on Tuesday and Wednesday in Vidarbha, southern and central parts of Maharashtra and Marathwada. The southern part of Madhya Pradesh Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha may witness rains too.

The weather department has warned farmers to take necessary measures to protect their standing crops and store harvest. The IMD stated that lightning, thunder and windy conditions would prevail between Tuesday and Thursday.

KS Hosalikar, Head SID, Climate Research & Services, Pune tweeted, Good Morning...As per the forecast issued by IMD Mumbai @RMC_Mumbai @RMC_Nagpur 16-18 Feb, parts of Vidarbha, Marathwada and M Mah likely to get TS with lightning, associated with light to mod rains.”

In another tweet he said, “As per IMD GFS guidance & forecast issued by IMD, parts of Maharashtra is likely to witness light-mod rains associated with TS/Lightning between 16-18 Feb. Farmers advised to take harvested crops under shelters.. Also pl follow safety from lightning. Please watch for IMD updates.”

According to the IMD forecast, rain activity is very likely to start over parts of central Maharashtra from Tuesday following three days. Under the effect of a trough in lower level easterlies, thunderstorms along with lightning and light to moderate rainfall is expected, IMD officials said.

The Meteorological Department also stated that light showers may bring impact on some states of the country. According to the reports, there is a chance of weather weakening once again amid another western disturbance, which brings out a possibility of snow in the northern parts between 14 and 16 February.
