PUNE: Red alert will continue on the second consecutive day today (i.e. on Tuesday) as Khadakwasla Irrigation Division continues to discharge 45,474 cusces of water in Mutha river uninterruptedly from the four dams. Pune traffic police closed six bridges in Pune city and Pimpri-Chinchwad as a precautionary measure on Monday which disconnected Pune city and PCMC areas. Around 5,000 flood affected people were relocated to safer places. Out of that, 303 persons were rescued from flood-affected areas in various parts of the city on Monday. There were no casualties reported so far.
The Pune traffic police closed seven bridges in PMC and PCMC limits. The bridge linking Sangvi and Spicer College, Rajiv Gandhi Bridge (Aundh) and Sangvi Phata-D-mart Bridge which connect PCMC areas and Pune where as Dapodi-Bopodi (Bhau Patil Road) Bridge, Old Holkar Bridge, Jayantrao Tilak Bridge (near PMC), Aga Khan Bridge (Kalyani Nagar) are also closed which are located in PMC limits. However, no major traffic jams were reported in the city as there was a holiday declared on Monday by Pune district administration for schools and colleges.
According to PMC statistics, the civic body relocated around 5,000 people in the last two days. Out of that, 637 persons were rescued by Fire Brigade and NDRF teams along the riverside areas in the last two days and shifted to 15 PMC schools and 10 community halls.
On Monday, 303 persons were shifted to PMC schools which included 100 people of Patil Estate slum areas (Shivajinagar). On Sunday, the number was 334. The PMC also rescued 17 animals. Fifty four trees fell in the last two days in the city. In the city, there were 10 wall collapsed and water gushed in 35 houses.
While sharing information with media, Mayor Mukta Tilak said, “We are in touch with the district administration, Khadakwasla Irrigation division and Pune police. The PMC is taking care of people who have been shifted. Non-government organisations (NGOs) and civic officials are providing food and shelter to flood-affected people. We made necessary arrangement in 39 PMC schools to relocate flood affected people.”
“PMC’s health department is carrying out health check-ups of shifted people. It has made arrangement of ambulances to tackle health-related situations. The civic body is closely monitoring the situation and providing help to people,” he added.
SOCIETIES AFFECTED IN WARJE, SINHAGAD ROAD
Though, maximum people affected were in slum areas, some of the societies of Warje, Baner, Aundh, Bopodi and Sinhagad Road were also affected. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) rescued 150 people from Baner, Aundh, Bhau Patil Road (Bopodi).
Two people from Tapodham Society and 11 people from Anand Nagar Society (Sinhagad Road) shifted to safe places by the civic administration on Monday.
