PUNE: BJP MP Anil Shirole has issued an ultimatum of four days to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to supply adequate water to some parts of the city at convenient timings, failing which, he would launch a hunger strike.

Mayor Mukta Tilak has instructed the civic administration to start a toll-free helpline number to solve water-related problems of the citizens.

On Thursday, Tilak approved the new water supply schedule, under which water will be supplied with high pressure for five hours once in a day. Shirole announced a hunger strike on Friday for irregular water supply to some parts of the city. However, Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao assured Shirole that they would regularise water supply by October 30. Later, Shirole suspended the agitation.

While speaking to Sakal Times, Shirole said, “ I suspended my agitation as the Municipal Commissioner gave an assurance as well as water supply department officials met me and discussed the issue. On Friday, a few parts of city started getting inadequate water supply. But I have decided to wait till October 30.”

TOLL FREE NUMBER
Mayor Mukta Tilak said, “I have instructed water supply officials to start a toll-free number to tackle water-related problems of citizens. The civic administration will start and operate the number from Monday. I have also told all corporators to conduct ward-wise meetings with water supply officials to listen and sort out local residents’ water-related problems. They will start from Monday.”

Pravin Gedam, superintendent engineer of water supply department, said, “We will start a toll-free helpline to tackle water-related problemd of people after the implementation of the new water schedule. From Monday, the civic administration will implement the schedule in the city.”

Earlier this month, the State Water Resource Department had decided to reduce the city’s water supply.
