Pune: City MP Anil Shirole visited the Pune airport and conducted a detailed survey to check the implementation of expansion work of the airport on Saturday. He also gathered information about the progress of various other development works.

Shirole said that the issue of extension of runway of the airport, increase in daily flight slots and construction of a parallel road to avoid heavy traffic jams near the main entrance gate was discussed in the meeting with Ajay Kumar, Director, Pune airport, Rajendra Raut, Road Department, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), and other officials of PMC.

“I have already written to Nitin Gadkari, Chairman of the Infrastructure Committee – Government of India, who has already directed to expedite the progress whilst keeping in mind the long-term quality and speed of execution for which I will be conducting regular site visits,” he said.

“This road is at behind the airport parking and connecting new approach to Viman Nagar on one side and terminates at the road connecting from Weikfield Chowk to 509 Chowk,” said Ajay Kumar.

“The new road will be parallel to existing road from Weikfield Chowk to Airforce gate near parking number 2. The PMC will carry out the work,” he added.
