Pune: With a graph of novel coronavirus not flattening its curve, Pune on Tuesday reported over 2,000 new COVID-19 cases. Pune city (Pune Municipal Corporation) alone were accountable for 1,000 new cases. A total of 13,177 samples were tested in the district on Tuesday. Pune district also reported 14 deaths on Tuesday, taking the death tally to 9,330.
The first time Pune city registered more than 1,000 cases a day. This came after almost five months, city’s total cases crossing the grim mark of 1,000 cases. In October last year, the city witnessed the toll of 1,000 new COVID cases. Of over 2,000 new cases in district, 1,086 were from Pune city followed by 635 from Pimpri Chinchwad (Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation) while 265 from Pune rural and 126 new cases from Cantonment.
From past few weeks, Pune is reporting the maximum number of cases for any city in India. According to figures released by the health department, Pune district has till now reported over 4.24 lakh confirmed cases.
On the other side, after Thane, administration in Jalgaon decided to impose a Janata Curfew after cases of COVID-19 witnessed a sudden spike. The curfew will start on March 11 at 8 pm and will remain in place till March 15 at 8 am. Meanwhile, Maharashtra on Tuesday reported 9,927 new cases while 56 people lost their lives amid the novel infection.
