Pune: The 36-hour software edition of the second edition of Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2018 is all set to begin from March 30. Around 28 nodal centres have been allotted to host the two-day (March 30 and 31) event across the country. The nodal centres in Pune are the National Chemical Laboratory (NCL) and College of Engineering, Pune (CoEP).

The SIH 2018 was launched by Minister of Human Resource Development Prakash Javadekar at the College of Engineering, Pune (CoEP) in October 2017.

Over 17,000 teams for both hardware and software editions have been registered. Among these, 12,047 are exclusively for the software edition and each team will consist of six students and two mentors from industry and/or academia.

As many as 340 problem statements have been identified by 27 Union ministries and 17 states/Union territories. While 68 problems have been listed under hardware edition.

Digital solution to predict drought in a protected area/locality by Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, application to map disabled friendly locations across Maharashtra by the government of Maharashtra, anti-pilferage and anti-adulteration system for fuel road tankers and an app that will give GPS based dengue risk index by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), development of customised keyboard for use of persons with intellectual disabilities by Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and many more such problems have been recognised to be solved in SIH.
