Pune: Arrested by Pune Police, a duo allegedly cheated a family in Kondhwa of Rs six lakh under pretext of a black magic con.

One of the two suspects was arrested under the anti-superstition law in the case.

An FIR was lodged at Kondhwa Police Station. The police have booked Kutubuddin Nazmi and Hakeemuddin Malegaonwala, (both are residents of Kondhwa). Of the two, Nazmi was arrested on Tuesday. A 36-year-old businessman from Salunke Vihar lodged the case, whose brother has been suffering from an illness rushed to police recently with the help of activists of the Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti (MANS), an organisation pioneered by Dr Narendra Dabholkar.

WHAT HAPPENED EXACTLY

According to the police, the complainant’s brother is being ill from the past few years. He was not getting any release from his sickness despite consulting different doctors over the past few years. In November 2020, his family members met two persons. The duo allegedly promised them a curse of black magic had been cast on the ill-man by his separated wife.

The duo promised them that they will order 'special' pigeons from Mumbai to help the family get rid of the curse. The family paid the amount worth Rs 3.80 lakh in cash to the duo in the same month.

Later, when other family members and friends came to know of the money given for the pigeons, they persuaded the complainant that they had been cheated. When he started demanding the amount back from the two, they threatened them with dreadful results. The family then rushed police through MANS activists.

The police have registered a case under the Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act.
