Symbiosis Skills and Open varsity hosts World Youth Skills Day

PUNE: The newly opened Symbiosis Skills and Open University hosted World Youth Skills Day at Kiwale campus in Kiwale, near Pune-Mumbai Expressway on July 15.

United Nations (UN) has declared July 15 as ‘World Youth Skills Day’ with an objective to understand what works to support young people in the present and future job market and how it can be achieved through training and skill development.

Vishal Chordia, entrepreneur and Director of Suhana Pravin Masalewale, was present as the chief guest during the event. While, other dignitaries like Dhanraj Pillay, former Indian Hockey Captain, Deepti Shrikant, Marathi actress, Parag Kanhere, a celebrity chef, RJ Sangram from Red FM Radio and RJ Kedar from Radio City were present. 

The day long events included a series of activities like auto feast where participants took test drives. In the Skill Will activity, visit to specialised skill labs imported from Germany and learning factories were set up in collaboration with industry on the university campus. 

Girls were seen making a beeline for the Symbiosis-Enrich Academy to get their makeovers done by Enrich Salon experts and much more.

Speaking at the event, Swati Mujumdar, Principal Director of Symbiosis Open Education Society (SOES) said, “The main idea behind organising ‘SymbiSkills’ is to reach out to youths across the State and encourage them to acquire skills that will make them market ready and enable them to achieve their dreams.” 

“With proper guidance and training, we can harness the potential of this young generation,” she added. 

“The event has provided students with a platform to engage with industry experts and get exposed to latest trends and technologies in various high growth sectors such as automobile, mechatronics, construction, retail, beauty and wellness etc.”
