Pune: The solid waste management in the city continues to remain an issue of serious concern for the residents staying in several areas of the city. This was highlighted during a survey conducted by a portal www.changebhai.in. In its fortnightly survey, it has given the highest rating to Vimannagar area on the basis of the status of civic amenities being offered in this area. The website has shared top ten and bottom ten localities based on the quality of civic amenities being offered in these areas. Totally, 19 issues were covered including bad roads, garbage, parking, encroachments, illegal hoardings, stray animals, public toilets and road dividers.

Reacting to the survey, Vimannagar resident Arjun Jagtap said, “We should feel happy and proud as our area is among top ten areas where the quality of civic amenities is good. It was possible due to collective efforts undertaken by residents of Vimannagar, the PMC team, Adar Poonawalla team. Janwani team and Vimantal police. Unfortunately, Chandannagar, which is barely 2 km from Vimannagar, finds its place among top worst areas of Pune.”

The users could use the ‘Changebhai’ website and app to report urban issues such as potholes, garbage dumps, stray dog menace, encroachment. In this survey, it was found that Vimannagar has got the highest ranking, which means the quality of civic services in the area is better as compared to other localities.

Kalyaninagar and Aundh followed Vimannagar for second and third position respectively. Koregaon Park, where the cities who’s who reside, had to settle for the fourth position. Changebhai.in collects data through its portal and publishes rankings on time to time basis on the portal. Current ranking is done on the basis of data collected in the last fortnight.
Pothole-ridden roads is the biggest cause of worry of Shivajinagar area, which is located in the heart of the city. Poor quality of footpaths, improper garbage management, illegal hoardings are also mentioned in the list of challenges in the area. As a result of this, the area has got only 6 out of 10 on road safety issues in the area.
