Pune: The 'Women Tech Makers' (WTM) community, backboned by Google, is enabling women techies for longer stay in the workforce by providing them a platform to showcase their skills and provide resources which help them to grow in their career.

According to a recent report by the 'Women Tech Makers India Research Report', India’s tech industry employs one crore people of which women make up 34 per cent of employees. However, the percentage of women is less as one climbs up the organisational ladder. According to the report findings, women hold 40 per cent of entry-level tech jobs, 30 per cent of mid-level positions and only 20 per cent of senior-level roles.

Pranoti Nandurkar, Lead, WTM Pune said, "Small cities do not have enough facilities, infrastructure and mentors. There is a huge gap between what is needed by the industry and what is taught in educational institutes. I realized the need of a tech community where one can share the experience and help each other to grow in career."

"In WTM we focus on latest trends in industry, workshops and hands-on on new technologies. We connect them with women leaders in the tech industry, arrange various talks and workshops. This helps our community members to be skilled in the latest technology, to be motivated and be in the workforce for a longer time."

"Usually we do at least one meetup every month, where we come together, share knowledge, discuss the challenges and try to overcome those, but due to Covid-19 situation, we couldn't host events in person. We have planned our International Women’s day celebration on March 20th and 21st. It will be an online event (https://iwdindia.in)," she informed.
