India vs England: Skipper Virat Kohli scripts major records in second T20

India skipper Virat Kohli on Sunday became the first cricketer to score 3,000 runs in T20I cricket

Ahmedabad: India skipper Virat Kohli on Sunday became the first cricketer to score 3,000 runs in T20I cricket. He achieved this feat wen India's defeated England in the second T20I match here at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

On Sunday, the skipper remained not-out for 73 off 43 balls as India chased target of 164 set by the visitors. With the win India level the five match series 1-1. Virat who made his T20 debut against Zimbabwe in 2010 has played 87 matches so far. At an average of 50.86, Virat has scored 3,001 runs with strike rate over 138. He also has 26 fifties in the shortest format of the game.

With another feather on the cap, Virat Kohli also became the fastest man to score 12,000 runs in international cricket. Virat now becomes the third skipper to score 12,000 or more runs in international cricket. He is followed by Australia’s former skipper Ricky Ponting and South Africa’s former captain Graeme Smith.

One of the chase masters in modern-day cricket, Kohli hit a six to win the match for India against England in 2nd ODI. It was the fourth instance when finished the game off in style for Men in Blues overtaking the previous record held by former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

AB’S ADVICE TO VIRAT KOHLI

Virat Kohli on Sunday credits his knock to a piece of advice of his friend and South African batsman AB de Villiers. Virat after the match said, “I had to shift the focus back to the basics. I've always taken pride in doing the job for the team. So more happy about that than scoring 70-odd. Kept my eye on the ball. The management spoke to me about things.”

"I had a special chat with AB de Villiers before this game and he told me just to watch the ball. So I did," Kohli said about his Royal Challengers Bangalore teammate.
