PUNE: SNBP Academy, Krida Prabodhini, Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy and Jai Bharat Hockey booked themselves semi-final spots in the 3rd SNBP All-India Hockey Tournament (Boys Under-16) being played at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Balewadi, here on Friday.
In the morning session, Pune based teams SNBP Academy and Krida Prabodhini registered double digit wins over their opponents to set up a last-4 showdown. KP downed Sports Authority of Gujarat 10-2, while SNBP Academy notvhed the highest win of the quarterfinals downing Hockey Nashik 11-1.
The all-Pune semi-final line up turns out to be a first in the tournament.
Host’s SNBP Academy were led by a three-goal effort by Abhishek Mane (53rd, 56th, 58th) and a brace each by Alfaz Sayyed (4th, 69th) and Shadab Mohammed (30th, 39th). Four others; Shubham Lahorya, Ajay Gote, Naresh Chatole, and Abhishekh Khalge netted a goal each against a hapless Hockey Nashik who was the only team in the last-8 to not score a goal.
Later, Krida Prabodhini, who finished in third place last year, had Prathamesh Hajare (9th, 10th, 29th; Aditya Lalge 12th) lead from the front against SAG.
A goal each by Dhairyashil Jadhav, Santosh Bhosale, Soham Kashid, Prasad Shende, Akshay Shende, and Madhur Karne completed the tally.
In the third quarterfinal of the day, defending champs MP Hockey Academy (MPHA) had a narrow 3-2 win over Army Boys Sports Company Regmt, Bihar. The hero of the win was Ingalemba’s 67th-minute strike. Earlier, Ali Ahmad (7th) and Priyo Barta (20th) netted for MPHA while Naveen Bura (44th) and Sachin Dung Dung (55th) netted for the losers.
Meanwhile Jai Bharat Hockey, Bhiwani beat Aishbagh Hockey 5-1.
