Paris 2024 Summer Olympics: India aims to win big in break dancing

The 32 dancers selected by the AIDSF will be mentored and trained by coaches from India as well as coaches from the US and England for preparations for the Paris Olympics

Pune: Sixteen boys and 16 girls from India will be selected to represent India in the Break Dance Sports event at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Maharashtra Dance Sports Association recently announced the 'Road to 2024 Olympics' program in their Annual General meeting.

In an online meeting organised under the guidance of All India Dance Sports Federation (AIDSF) in Pune, AIDSF Secretary Biswajit Mohanty, Chief Technical Director and renowned choreographer Gagun Bedi, Technical Dance Coach Vinod Shankar, Maharashtra Dance Sports Association Secretary and Convener Ranjit Bharavdaj, Pyarelal Choudharni, Vice president, Maharashtra Dance Sports Association were present.

Following the terms and conditions laid down by the World Dance Federation (WDF), various levels of competitions will be organized in India to select the best 16 boys and 16 girls in this break dance sports

The 32 dancers selected by the AIDSF will be mentored and trained by coaches from India as well as coaches from the US and England for preparations for the Olympics, Bedi informed. A competition on this theme will be organised in Maharashtra. He clarified that the tournament will be held once all the conditions are under control in view of the growing threat of corona.

“Earlier, dance was seen only as a form of entertainment or an art. There are various dance reality shows of dancing in which the participants are able to show their talent. But with the inclusion of the Break Dance in the Olympics, it will no longer be just an art but will be considered as sport,” he stated further.
