Riya Habbu wins Maharashtra State title

PUNE: Riya Habbu from Nikhil Kanetkar Badminton Academy (NKBA) defeated her academy team mate Tara Shah 21-10, 21-18 to clinch the Under-19 title at the 2019 Maharashtra Junior State Championships, which concluded in Nagpur on Sunday.

In the semi-final action, Habbu defeated Riya Kunjir 21-17, 21-8 and Shah beat Hrisha Dubey 21-9, 21-17 to make it to the final.

Varun Kapur loses to teammate Luwang
Top seed Varun Kapur had a good run in the Russian Junior White Nights 2019 tournament, which concluded in the Russian city of Gatchina on Sunday.

In the final, Varun went down to fellow Indian and third seeded Meiraba Luwang 5-21, 9-21.

In the semi-finals, Varun defeated Thailand’s Woraphop Chuenkha 21-15, 21-17, while in the quarterfinals Varun beat Artur Pechenkin of Russia 21-13, 21-17.
