Sanghvi makes winning start

SPORTS REPORTER

Pune: Vignesh Sanghvi of Pune dropped the first frame but bounced back in style to overcome compatriot Gaurav Patange 3-1 in a best-of-5-frame Group-H round-robin league match of the Maharashtra State Senior Snooker & Billiards Selection (leg-1) Championship 2018 and played at the Poona Club on Monday.

Patange put a strong fighting performance and started positively to pocket the opening frame against the experienced Sanghvi in the first match of the group.
However, Sanghvi a former Maharashtra junior number one ranked player in both billiards and snooker, quickly put behind the loss of the first frame and started to build on the opportunities to make small decent breaks and stay in control as he went on to win the next three frames by close margin. His efforts helped to complete a satisfying 49-62, 70-51, 64-57 and 60-36 victory.

Mumbai’s Mayank Bhavsar made a bright start defeating Pune’s Siddharth Tembe 3-0 in a Group-D match. Results: Senior snooker: Group-D: Mayank Bhavsar bt Siddharth Tembe 3-0 (59-35, 77-18, 72-12); Group-G: Abhishek Bajaj bt Kreishh Gurbaxani 3-0 (61-48, 61-15, 63-34); Group-H: Vignesh Sanghvi  bt Gaurav Patange 3-1 (49-62, 70-51, 64-57, 60-36).
