Keeping up with the times, workplace collaboration app Slack is working towards bringing new audio as well as video features onboard a new update. The features would be on the lines of Instagram Stories and Clubhouse -- the audio-only social media.
This update was discussed by Slack CEO Stewart Butterfield last week, in a Clubhouse interview with SignalFire investor Josh Constine.
Despite having several services, Slack has predominantly been a text-only social media platform so far. Primarily used for inter-work communication, the platform has now decided to take on a more cross-medium approach for its target audience.
The hybrid model comes at a time when there's a new emphasis on video and audio features — which have gained traction amid the pandemic and are expected to continue even after the pandemic is over.
However, according to a report by TechCrunch on Saturday, the video feature that Slack is looking to introduce will not be on the lines of Zoom or Microsoft Teams.

Alternatively, the focus would be more on offering experience similar to Instagram or Snapchat Stories.
Furthermore, Slack is working on building an audio feature that could offer an experience for enterprises, similar to what the app Clubhouse lends to its users.
Slack Chief Product Officer Tamar Yehoshua, in a blog post last week, provided some details about the new features.
"We need to reduce team fatigue while improving belonging. To help with this, we are piloting ways to shift meetings toward an asynchronous video experience that feels native in Slack. It allows us to express nuance and enthusiasm, without a meeting," she said.
That said, the tech company hasn't made it clear when the new features will be made generally available for its audience.
Cloud software firm Salesforce at the end of last year announced a pact to acquire Slack for $27.7 billion.
