Pune: Thermax Limited announced a strategic collaboration with Ceres Power Limited, a subsidiary of Ceres Power Holdings plc (CWR.L). The partnership aims to manufacture large-scale solid oxide electrolysis cell (SOEC) systems to boost green hydrogen production in India and globally.
Under this non-exclusive global license agreement, Thermax will manufacture, sell, and service stack array modules (SAM) utilizing Ceres' cutting-edge SOEC technology.
The collaboration also includes the development and commercialization of SAM balance of modules (SBM) and multi-megawatt SOEC electrolyser modules. These advanced systems are expected to play a crucial role in supporting green hydrogen initiatives and decarbonization efforts worldwide.
The collaboration leverages Thermax's expertise in heat integration and waste heat recovery. This knowledge will be applied to the development of a first-of-its-kind pressurized SAM and the engineering of SBM, a core component for future multi-megawatt SOEC electrolyser modules.
The partnership aims to enhance hydrogen production efficiency by up to 25% compared to traditional low-temperature electrolysis technologies, making it an ideal solution for industries that are challenging to decarbonize, such as steel, chemicals, ammonia, and refineries.
Thermax also plans to set up a manufacturing facility to produce these electrolysers and develop a localized supply chain for the commercialization of green hydrogen solutions.
By doing so, Thermax positions itself among a select few companies capable of offering large-scale SOEC systems for commercial applications.
