Our days indoors are teaching us a lot of new things. From washing utensils to keeping the house tidy, the unavailability of maids has increased the scope of our learning curves. Many of us have by now learned to cook food, apart from instant noodles. Some of us have also gained first-hand experience in the tedious jhadu-pocha business.
For the more seasoned players, the duties have been a little more demanding - such as household cleaning, or looking after an entire meal. But this is the new normal, right?
Also, slowly becoming immune to the lockdown, we have now found innovative ways to be able to celebrate birthdays, festivals and auspicious days amidst these times. Cakes are being cut, and prayers are being offered over video calling. Some people have also gone to the extent of exchanging rings over zoom calls.
But up next, is a challenging one – Mother’s Day. While most of us are used to buying pamper kits or salon sessions for our mothers, the lockdown makes celebrating Mother’s Day difficult.
With cleaning and washing utensils already added to our job profiles, options for making Mother’s Day special seem scarce. But there is little to worry.
Here’s a list of things to do to make your mom feel special.
Ways to celebrate Mother’s Day at home:
Cook her a special meal: Our mothers have spent years cooking our favourite meals and making the best efforts to fulfil all our needs. It’s time to give back in the same way. You may not be the best cook, but what’s the hurry. With all the time on your hands, pull out your mom’s favourite recipes and get cooking. Let a bottle of wine also add an extra special touch to the dinner table.
Photo Albums: Bring out the photo albums and enjoy a trip back in time. Photos are the best way to relive old memories and rekindle relationships. Endless stories and memories are sure to come afresh, filling you with joy. Take some time off work and enjoy this journey down the memory lane.
Plan a board games night: Growing up, we forget that spending time with our parents is as important as doing other work. Our parents have spent hours of their adult life playing board games to keep us entertained. So, what better time than now for a fun game night.
Watch a movie together: As a teenager, my mom and I loved watching Freaky Friday together. I would relate to the misunderstood teenager, while she, to the mother. We would always enjoy the movie, and my father would never get our references. Pick up some nachos and vibe to a mother-daughter movie to make her day.
Learn something new from her: Our parents are our first friends, teachers and our introduction to the world. There is so much that we can still learn from our parents. Ask your mother to teach you something new and watch her bloom with happiness.
Hope you have a wonderful Mother's Day!
