Bahu Hamari Rajni Kant-fame Ridhima Pandit will soon be seen playing the lead in ALTBalaji’s new web series Hum... I Am Because Of Us. Ekta Kapoor launched the trailer of the series on Friday on her social networking site and tweeted, ‘Be careful wat u wish for ....the scary part is ... u might get it!! Another mini soap launching on @altbalaji ! HUM! @ridhimapandit @karishmasharma22 @therealkushaltandon @altbalaji @nimishalok @fazilasol #kaamna #sol.’
The pretty actress, who is super excited to be part the family drama which has loads of twists and turns, says, “It’s a story of three sisters, who are quite different from each other. I play the older sister, who believes in everything that is right and nice. She is true believer of love. The second sister is very practical and the third one is the narrator.”
The series, which will begin streaming from July 30, also stars Kushal Tandon and Karishma Sharma.
This is Ridhima’s first association with the TV producer. “I had met her last year. When I got a call from her, I was stunned -- ‘I got a call from Ekta Kapoor’. I went to meet her and she told me that she is working on this series. At that point, I didn’t ask her anything else because I was keen on getting started with her work wise. When I heard the story, I found it was beautiful and so was my character. I instantly decided to it. I had never done anything like this before because I come from comedy genre.”
The actress adds that because she has mostly done comedy, it was difficult for her to be serious. “It was difficult for me to cry,” she says. But did she want to break her comic image and hence decided to do this show?
Ridhima replies, “As an actor, I believe that a lot of people get typecast and I was very conscious that I do not want it to happen with me. But the thing is, comedy comes very naturally to me, and I enjoy doing it. People have welcomed me with good reviews when it comes to comedy. Having said that, being the quintessential heroine is what an actor always wishes for. I am getting a chance to be the heroine in Hum...I Am Because of US. I am loving the idea.”
But there are some fans who want to see her in this particular genre. How does she work around with her audience’s expectations while signing a show? “I always go with my instinct. Although my fans love me, I am pretty sure that they know that I want to grow as an actor. If I give variety to them, they will like the idea of seeing me in different roles. Also, at this point in my career, I have to find my ground.”
The actress has worked in both TV and web. She was also a part of another web series for Voot. Ridhima says that both the mediums are quite different. “The reach of TV cannot be matched, but I find that web is more realistic. For example, if I want to abuse someone if I am angry, I will just abuse, and the web series will show it. There is no cinematic liberty on TV, while there is lot of scope to explore on web. But I am going to be back on TV soon,” she says without divulging details about her upcoming TV show. There are strong rumours of her signing Colors TV’s upcoming reality show Khatron Ke Khiladi, but the actress prefers to stay tight-lipped about it now.
